Sri is an Ayurvedic herbalist, health educator and yoga instructor in the San Francisco Bay area.
Ayurvedic Herbalism and Natural Therapies
Sri has been in herbal practice since 2006. She studied in India with renowned Vaidya Dr. Ashwin Shastry at Arogyaniketana Ayurveda. There, she trained in classical Ayurvedic theory and practice according to traditional Ayurvedic texts while living on premises at their inpatient clinic and concurrently gaining experience in a diverse and bustling outpatient clinic. Prior to that, she apprenticed for five years in Berkeley, California at the Berkeley Ayurveda clinic. Chiefly under Dharmanidhi Acarya and with supplemental education from Michael Dick, she was trained in Ayurvedic diagnostics, pulse and tongue analysis, herbs, and marma therapy. Sri concurrently studies Western and Chinese Herbalism with Michael Tierra, LAc, and is certified as a Family Practitioner. Her education about healing using food as medicine is strongly shaped by her studies with Liu Ming, Nam Singh and Dr. Shubha Shastry. Sri’s practice is informed by her previous bodywork practice and certifications in Shiatsu, Thai massage, Jin Shin Jyitsu and Tui Na at San Francisco School of Massage.
A yoga practitioner since 1996, Sri’s classes are based on traditional, nondual Adi-Yoga and meditation. After years of practice in Ashtanga, Iyengar and Vinyasa each, she was introduced to a deeply rich classical Hatha format under Dharmanidhi Acarya’s tutelage in 2003, training in several longterm study groups, among them, Advanced Yoga Studies, Tantric Yoga Studies Group and Yoga Therapy. These programs drilled core values and philosophy of traditional techniques, highlighting physical anatomy as well as yogic anatomy while pushing theory as much as practice. Training was conducted in both classroom and retreat format from 2003-2011. Textual study has been a vital component training, including Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Siva Sutras, Yoga Sutras and portions of Yoga Rahasya.
Sri has acquired teaching certifications from Cyndi Lee at Om Yoga Center in NYC in 2001, Dharmanidhi Acarya at Yoga Mandala in Berkeley in 2004 and several years and thousands of private instructor hours later, Sri became a certified Adi-Yoga instructor in 2010. She is registered with Yoga Alliance.
